So I am very late on my December blog (just posted it), so don’t forget to check it out.
Believe it or not we started the new year with SNOW! We woke up New Years Day to this:
If we have to have snow, this is the way to have it, gone by 9AM.
With Chayce back in WI and Brandon in CA, Kim and I were on our own for New Year’s Eve. We are a couple of party animals; TWO PARTIES! We started the evening by attending a party at Lisa’s (Kim’s sister) and then went to a neighborhood party back in our neck of the woods and still made it to bed by 11:45PM. Now that's what I call efficient celebrating.
Kim and I utilized a work trip of mine to have a weekend getaway in Fort Lauderdale, FL. It was a nice relaxing weekend at the beach.
On Sunday before we headed home, we went looking for Little Havana, a Cuban community in Miami. We found it, but our timing was both good and bad. We happened to choose the weekend of the Celebration of the Three Kings; good because everyone was out attending a parade, which provided a great opportunity to see the community at a fun time, and bad because traffic was awful. Regardless we enjoyed it and found an awesome local eatery which featured traditional Cuban dishes, which i love. We had oxtail soup and black rice, yum. The biggest challenge was attempting to communicate with the all Spanish speaking staff.
The big news for us this month was Brandon’s departure for Italy. As you should know by now he is doing a study abroad in Rome and will be gone until late May.
Before he left we had a send off barbeque for him at our house with several of his ASU friends. They are such a great bunch of kids, it is nice to have them join us.
As you can see they snuck out on the golf course and knocked some balls around.
The next day he was off to Rome.
In spite of his plane being delayed because the pilot was in a car crash on his way to the airport ??? He made it to Rome safe and sound.
He is available to chat by text, Facetime or Skype, so we have been trying to keep up with his travels.
His group is only about 40 kids and they all live in the same building and from the sounds of it, they do a lot of exploring together. He has been spending most of his weekends exploring Rome and has trips to Venice and Paris planned for February.
As you can see Brandon has no problem finding friends
Chayce is working hard and putting in long hours. He has proven himself in a very short period time and as a result they keep giving him more and more responsibilities.
That’s all for now. Have a great February.
