Kim and I headed to Flagstaff in August for the next leg of our summer travels. It is just a short couple of hours north of Scottsdale, but wow, was it cooler. Flagstaff is about 7000’ elevation and it made for some really nice cool temperatures. We had lots of evening thunder storms that provided plenty of rain, thunder and lightning.
Flag has a nice mountain resort town feel to it. Lot’s of great restaurants and local attractions. The downtown is fun to walk around and frequently has some type of entertainment going on.
We visited a volcano.
Near by are several Native American ruin sites that were very cool to hike around.
A little friend who liked to visit us in our backyard
We took a ride up to the local ski resort. This field of flowers was on our way. The resort is open for chairlift rides up to the top of the mountain. It provided some spectacular views. As well it should; at 11,000+ feet. The air is pretty thin that high.
11,510’ and we hiked higher
The air may be thinner, but it didn’t help the smell any :(
We visited BEARAZONA, a bear preserve that also has several other species of animals. Here is Kim trying to corrupt an Otter with a Skittle. There was a small zoo for the baby animals and then we drove through the park with the larger animals.
This was the cutest thing; these 3 were grooming each other and they did this hum kind of sound as they did so.
We caught up with these two at dinner time. They didn’t seem like they wanted to share.
Back in Scottsdale we have been having a wild Monsoon season this year. Huge storms with lots of sudden and plentiful rain storms. This is one of the sand traps on the course behind out house after a storm.
We are getting used to only seeing Chayce via Skype now that he is in Wisconsin. I get to go see him in September, so I’m really looking forward to that.
He is enjoying his new job and apartment.
Brandon started back at school for his Junior year at ASU. He is also working part-time at the Biltmore Resort at the golf course and loving it. Not only does he get good tips, but he gets free golf.
Have a great September. Kim and I are off to San Diego for the month, so hopefully we will have some good stories to tell.
