The biggest story of the month was Irene. The politicians and the media certainly took advantage of the situation to increase viewership and gain reelection points, but the storm did pack a punch.
We got tons of rain starting Saturday night through Sunday morning, they say 10”, that is on top of the 10” we already received during the month. Thankfully we live on a hill and our property is situated in such a way that the water just ran down the hill and we didn’t have any issues. Others were not so lucky. Sunday afternoon we felt the fury of the backend of the storm with high winds. We lost a 40-50’ tree that was 8’ from our house. Luckily it fell away from our house and landed just 6’ from our neighbors house. No significant damage, other than we now have to figure out how to cut up the tree. Dad where are you and your chain saw when I need you?
Brandon and Shelby picking up the 1000’s of branches blown across the yard.
Brandon has been very busy all month with football. He has been practicing 6 days a week with the last few weeks being doubles. The team is working hard and has high expectations coming off last years state championship. At the time of this report he has had 3 scrimmages with other schools and the team looks very good.
Chayce headed back to school in Arizona this month. It was great to have him home for the summer. He accomplished a lot by getting his EMT course done. At the conclusion of the course work he was required to work a couple of days in a hospital emergency room. On his first day of work they had a motorcycle accident victim come in and Chayce assisted by giving chest compressions and other things, unfortunately the patient did not survive the accident due to massive internal injuries. It was a great learning experience and he took it all in stride. Good practice for the day when he has patients of his own.
Rob had a trip to California the same week Chayce needed to be back at school so he stopped into Tempe on his way to help Chayce move into his new place.
Here are a few photos of the extremely difficult college life:
These are at the apartments he lives in, pool, movie theater, work out gym (look through the windows at the end of the pool, that’s all work out equipment on the 2nd floor)
No his room isn’t as nicely decorated or clean as this one, but it is set up the same.
Kim and Rob took their annual trip to the Sussex county fair and had a great evening of fried food and animal watching, both human and otherwise.
The best ice-cream maker ever, it is even a John Deer
Since we are so late getting our blog up I’ll sum up the rest of the month by also noting that Kim and Rob continue to practice our empty nest skills. We attended family day at the Seeing Eye as well as taking a couple of day trips to new and interesting parts of NJ we have not seen before. We had lots of fun.
Have a great September.

Thanks for the blog. You do such a great job and we love it. I thought there wasnn't a place in NJ that you have not seen. Love your blog.
Grandpa
Glad you survived Irene. Hope Chayce can survive living in that fancy apartment - congratulations to Chayce on getting his EMT with a dose of reality - yuck. I think he is going to make a very compasionate good doctor some day.
Glad that you didn't have much damage from Irene, and that your tree didn't hit your house when it fell. I'm not showing Megan the pictures of where Chayce is living at ASU - it will make her dingy basement apartment seem so sad when she goes to college. You and Kim make empty nesting look fun - maybe I will stop dreading it. :)
