April & May 2011 Report

So, I had my April blog about 1/3 of the way done for most of the month, however with all the travel I have been doing the past couple of months I just never finished it. When I was home, I was so behind on everything else that I just never got back to it. So,I guess I’ll attempt to publish an April and May blog. If you’re reading this it means I was successful in getting it done.

April

Kim found us a couple of tickets via groupon.com to see Ethan Bortnick’s concert in New Brunswick, NJ. I’ll admit I was a little skeptical going in, but the kid is amazing. If he comes your way and your looking for a couple of hours of entertainment it is worth the price of admission. If you have younger kids who are into music or entertainment, they will likely get into it.

Chayce’s Misadventure!

Chayce called us one Saturday evening and told us about a camping trip he had just returned from and the wild adventure it turned into. To make matters worse for Kim and I, we had just finished watching the movie “127 Hours”, the one based on a guy who goes off camping and doesn’t tell anyone where he is going and gets trapped by a falling boulder and has to cut off his arm to get free. With that as a backdrop I guess I don’t need to explain to any of the parents why we grounded Chayce for the rest of his life Smile Long story short they got caught in a surprise snow storm, had to hike several miles back to the car in summer clothes, proceeded to roll the truck over (no, Chayce wasn’t driving and yes it was high in the mountains and on the edge of a cliff) and then had to walk several more miles until they found someone who was able to give them a ride. Thankfully no one was hurt and now they have a good story to tell.

Flipped Truck

For Spring Break Kim, Brandon and I went and looked at some potential colleges for Brandon. It is hard to believe in a year, both boys will be off to college. Oh, what will Kim and I do??? Wait until the May part of the blog for a preview Smile

We stopped in Atlantic City for lunch and a quick walk on the boardwalk.

On one of my many trips to California, I decided to stay the weekend and drive over to AZ and visit Chayce. We had a great time.

He treated me to a Diamondbacks Baseball game, complete with caramel apples.

We also took a trip to the Grand Canyon. Chayce nearly gave me a heart attack by hanging off the edge of a cliff. Yes it really is hundreds if not thousands of feet straight down from where he is sitting. It was his first time to the canyon and as he will tell you, you don’t know what you're missing until you actually see it with your own eyes.

Brandon is now a working man. He is delivering Pizza for the Pizza Pub here in Randolph. He gets good tips and seems to enjoy it. We are proud of how hard he works at it.

It wouldn’t be spring if Kim didn’t take her annual trip to the QVC Beauty Bash in Pennsylvania. As usual she came home with lots of goodies.

May

Chayce came home from school. He did fantastic in his first year of college and is now a Sophomore. We are very proud of how great he is doing.

When I was out in April we took a tour of the apartment complex he will be living in next year. Let’s just say it is nicer than any apartment I’ve ever lived in. It was more like a five star resort than a college apartment. Kim and I are thinking we will just move in with him. I’ll post more on it next school year when he is moved in.

Brandon had his Junior Prom and from the limited feedback we got it sounds like he had a good time.

He went with a bunch of his friends to the NJ Shore on the weekend following the prom and as you can see pretended to be on the show “Jersey Shore”. If you don’t know what that is…GOOD!

Kim and I left the boys to take care of themselves for a few days and headed out to practice our “empty nest” skills. I think we actually did pretty good, we may actually be near experts already.

The Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach Florida.

It is such a nice place. I had some work, but not too much and Kim relaxed by the pool or beach and read her book or napped. We took a boat tour one day and saw how the upper 1% lives, very nice.

See, don’t we look happy?

We had dinner one night at the Versace mansion on South Beach. He was shot to death on the front steps. It was a pretty cool place.

Well, That’s it for April and May. Boat is in the water, so hopefully June will have some good lake stories.

Chayce's adventure sounds more like a nightmare, especially for parents. :) Glad he is okay and did so well his first year of college. Hard to believe Megan and Brandon are fast on his heels. I think you and Kim will make great empty-nesters. :)

You sure live a deprived life. One more year and you will be like some of the rest of us. Love your blog.

I'm glad you caught up your blog so we could see what you have been up to. I'm also glad that Chayce is still alive. O.K., I looked at your blog last night before going to bed and I had a nightmare that I was falling off a cliff into the Grand Canyon. It was horrible!
