October Report

Fall has arrived in NJ. The boys are busy with school and working hard. The leaves are turning and falling off the trees. Saturday morning chores change from mowing the lawn to raking the leaves. The new trick is renting a high powered blower from Home Depot and blasting the leaves away. It turns what was once a 3/4 day project into an hour or so. Yahoo!

Chayce is now working on the college prep and admissions part of his life. We went to a college open house at the local community college where they had over 200 schools in attendance with info on their school. It was interesting and we collected a bunch of materials. Our high school has a very agressive approach to helping kids get prepared and gain entrance into university. Chayce doesn't really know what school he wants to go to yet so I guess we will just have to look at several options until he figures it out.

Brandon is still doing great at football this year and loving every moment of it. His team is doing very well and most importantly they are playing as a team and really seem to enjoy being together and supporting each other. I have been really impressed with his coaches this year. In case you didn't see the mid month blog below, I had to move the pictures because the web site I was using before limited the space and wasn't enough to handle all the photos I had. I moved the pictures to a new site and it is actually much better. -> http://randolphfroshfootball.shutterfly.com/
Brandon kicking an extra point after a Randolph TD.

The following sequence is an open field tackle by Brandon on defence, Nice.
This sequence was a nice catch by Brandon and the ensuing tackle by the opposing team.

Chayce has a group of friends that he has a regular basketball game with. They get together at a local park and play for several hours at a time. The courts are lit up at night so on the weekends they play well after dark. Now that he is driving it is nice because he can just get himself there and once he is done, he drives himself home. Boy is it nice having him driving!

I had some meetings planned for Las Vegas in the middle of the month so I combined that with a little BYU Football and Golf. I flew into SLC on Saturday morning, played a quick round of golf and then watched BYU play New Mexico. It was fun to be in the stadium again and to watch a game live. It is always so much fun to be at the games.

Jeff and Alex joined me for the game and pizza afterwards, and it was great to see them. It was too bad I didn't get to visit with the rest of Jeff's family or Bryce's, but the game was a late add to the itinerary so there wasn't much I could do move things around.

After the game a friend of mine and I drove down to St. George. We played a couple of new courses there before heading to Las Vegas.

This was on the back nine of a new course called Sand Hollow (St.George, UT). Very beautiful and dramatic course. Greens were way to fast!
As luck would have it Jessica and her husband Reece were in St. George so they met me in between rounds for lunch. It was great to see her and as usual we had a great time. We reminisced about all the crazy times we had when she lived with us in NJ.

My meetings in Las Vegas were at Lake Las Vegas which is about 15 miles from the strip. They have a couple of nice courses there. This hole is on the back nine of the Falls course. The picture doesn't do a good job of showing how far down it is to the fairway.

I finished the month with the mother of all flu/colds. It has been a long time since I've been sick and boy did I ever make up for it this time. I was down and out for a couple of days and then of course I've been living through the residual after effects ever since. Brandon spent every waking moment staying as far away from me as he could and being a mega germaphobe, while Chayce kept me company and took good care of me.

Halloween is a bit of a non-event around here now that the boys are older. The boys both went over to a friends house. Brandon did actually go out and get some candy, but Chayce couldn't be bothered. Probably a good idea since I bet if we went and looked hard enough in his room we could find uneaten candy from 10 years ago.

I am in the process of putting my Alaska pictures online. Here is the web site. http://2008rralaska.shutterfly.com/
